Many of those tools are focused on a timer based approach that requires you to start and stop the timer.Īpproaches this differently. There is very little “automatic” categorization of time. I found them useful, but requiring a lot of diligence to work with. With companies looking to track effort on sprints, hours on a client project, or (as in my case) just a dev wanting to better evaluate the productive use of time, this app fills some gaps that others don’t.For instance, I’ve tried tools such as Toggl, and similar. With the amount of context switching many developers do, it can be tough to remember how much time went to each project. That is an advantage for people with busy schedules that still want the benefits of having an electronic air cleaner.Ĭontact Automatic Air today to find out more ways to maximize your comfort during the upcoming fall/winter season.Tracking time is always a beast. These air cleaners perform much like electronic air cleaners, but instead of periodically washing your electronic cells, you simply replace your filter media once or twice a yr. Hybrid electronic/mechanical air purifiers provide both extremely good particle removal and superior dust collection. While this may be discouraging to some, keep in mind that they offer significantly better breathing quality and allergy relief to all members in your household than most mechanical filters. Though electronic air cleaners remove up to thirty times as much dust as mechanical filters, or up to 99% of particulates, it is important to point out that they typically cost more to purchase and they require cleaning every 60-90 days. Unlike regular HEPA filters, “HEPA-type” must be replaced multiple times a year. “HEPA-type” filters are responsible for removing anywhere from 25-95 percent of the hazardous particles from the air. They are also very restrictive, and allow for filtering only 15-25% of your air through these filters at a time, thus inflating your home heating costs by 10 cents per day. It is important to note that these filters can cost anywhere from $75-$135. HEPA filters virtually eliminate all hazardous particles from the air allowing you and your family to breathe easy. HEPA filters have been used in military, industrial, and scientific application but have now been adapted for personal home use. ![]() Electronic whole-house air filters charge the filter membrane or particles in the air to create a magnetic attraction which forces the particles to be collected by the collection cells, thus removing them from the air.Īs a homeowner you have several mechanical choices when it comes to air filters. Mechanical filters catch the dust and dirt from the air as it passes through the filter membranes. There exist three types of filtration systems: mechanical, electronic, or a combination of the two. To maximize your health and comfort during the fall and winter months your air filtration systems must also be in check. Though the action elements are exciting on their own, it's all stuff we've seen before. In either case, the zoom function makes use of a great iron sights effect where you stare down the barrel and literally have to line the target up in your sights. It makes the game more realistic to play with it off but it makes it a hell of a lot more convenient to switch it on. You can opt to play with a reticle or not. Like in Rainbow Six, a couple of hits are sufficient to bring you down in Brothers in Arms. The Basics The basic shooter mechanics are solid but you'll probably need to adjust your mindset a bit since you're not the super soldier you are in most other games. While the main character's story itself isn't all that engaging, the context of the battles is always very clear and meaningful. From the small things like the offhand reference to the flooded fields that drowned many paratroopers, to the large things like the mission that involves removing obstructions that are preventing the gliders from landing, Brothers in Arms really puts the player there, from the early breakout at Exit 4 off Utah Beach all the way to the final showdown at Carentan. ![]() Though there are some definite concessions made for the sake of the game, Brothers in Arms is an undeniably authentic experience. From there you'll move on to clearing out towns, blowing bridges, and keeping Jerry from overrunning your command posts. Consequently, you can expect early missions to involve linking up with other paratroopers and taking out German defenses. Nearly all of the locations and events and characters you'll encounter in this game have been drawn from the actual experiences of the 502nd Regiment over those seven days. The game takes place over seven days, starting with the nighttime drop and ending with the action at Hill 30. You play as Matt Baker, a sergeant in Fox Company of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. Through a disastrous series of mis-drops, they found themselves far from their original target and far from the other members of their company. These paratroopers were effectively on their own until Allied forces could secure an exit off the beaches. The Situation Just after midnight on D-Day, hours before the landing craft made their way to the shores of Normandy, paratroopers from the 101st and 82nd Airborne parachuted behind German lines to disrupt the defenses and forestall the inevitable counter-attacks that were sure to be launched once the Allied troops landed on the beaches. ![]() ![]() ![]() In the third column, all alternate ammo types for that cartridge are listed. Nidhogg has all the intensity of a close fighting-game match without most of the complexity. While there are tricks to pick up, there are no complex moves to learn. A built-in tournament mode facilitates up to eight players, and you can mix things up with gameplay variants such as low-gravity boomerang mode, where thrown swords come back to their original owner, or baby mode, which forces both fighters to crawl everywhere (good for an initial laugh but not the most enjoyable way to play). Everybody is likely to have a favorite stage, though the overly bright first screen of the Clouds stage might cause headaches for some.Įven though only two people can play at a time, Nidhogg is an excellent game for parties or other group activities. Another stage features long, narrow corridors that negate the usefulness of both jumps and sword throws. One stage features areas with tall grass that hides the position of your sword, making close-quarters duels more of a guessing game. You can fight on four different stages, each of which sports unique features to differentiate it from its brethren. Some strategies may seem to be surefire ways to succeed, but that's only true until your opponent catches on to what you're doing and learns how to defend against it. Nobody starts with an advantage, and your victory or failure depends entirely on your own skill. There are no special characters to select, and every arena is symmetrical. Nidhogg's battles can be intense in part because the playing field is perfectly even. The floor of this castle has been carpeted by colorful blood. The back-and-forth between two well-matched players is thrilling, and there's a pure exhilaration that comes from being on the brink of a loss, making the right move at the right time, and fighting your way back to win. A single game could just as easily last 20 seconds as 20 minutes, depending on the skill of both fighters. To take the football analogy further, it's like forcing your opponent to fumble and then running away with the ball, until he wrestles the ball back from you and goes their way again until somebody finally scores. If you can come back and kill the other player before he reaches his goal, you gain control of the screen and can make a mad dash for your goal instead. That fight is not the end, however, because you continue to respawn until you have either won or lost. The first person to kill the other gets to run toward his or her goal like a football player dashing for the end zone. Rarely do games with such simple controls offer so much variety in their actions. All with only two action buttons: jump and attack. If you want to get a little fancier, you can dive-kick, roll, cartwheel, throw your sword, or, if empty-handed, try to pummel your opponent with your fists. Tapping a direction takes a small step, while holding runs. A well-timed change in sword position can disarm your opponent, leaving him open to be pierced through the torso (or head, if you're so positioned). If you and the other player have your swords at the same height, the blades will clash, making the question of where and when to strike a mind game. You can move your sword to one of three different heights (low, medium, and high), and the combat works like fencing: you don't swing you stab. ![]() Two fighters enter at the center of a 2D side-scrolling arena, armed with only a sword. Frodo was taken by the orcs, who fought over the shirt. When Sam Gamgee believed Frodo to be dead outside Shelob's Lair, he left the shirt with Frodo. The mail saved Frodo's life when he was struck by an orc chieftain's spear thrust during the battle in the Chamber of Mazarbul, and again when orc-arrows struck him while escaping Moria and while crossing the River Anduin. Frodo wore the mail underneath his tunic and other shirt unbeknownst to the rest of the fellowship. There, some years later, he gave the shirt to Frodo Baggins when the younger hobbit embarked on his quest in The Lord of the Rings. However he later reclaimed it, and took it with him when he left the Shire for his journey to Rivendell. He donated it to the Mathom-house, a museum in Michel Delving. Īlso there is this!" said Bilbo, bringing out a parcel which seemed to be rather heavy for its size. Gandalf stated that the value of this mithril-coat was "greater than the value of the whole Shire and everything in it". The most notable item made of mithril in the works of Tolkien is the "small shirt of mail" that Thorin Oakenshield gave to Bilbo Baggins after it had been retrieved from the hoard of Smaug the dragon. There are indications that mithril was also found in Númenor and Aman. not to make parallels" between Tolkien's descriptions of the deep mines of Moria and the exceptional depth of South African mines, some as much as 4,000 metres (13,000 ft) deep. The mining executive Danièle Barberis notes that Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa, in a busy mining region. The Tolkien critic Paul Kocher interprets the Dwarves' intense secrecy around mithril and their devotion to artistry in metal and stone as "a sublimation of their sexual frustration", given that they have very few dwarf-women and love beauty with a "jealous possessiveness", or (quoting Tolkien) "being engrossed in their crafts". After the Dwarves abandoned Moria and production of new mithril stopped entirely, it became priceless. Before Moria was abandoned by the Dwarves, while it was still being actively mined, mithril was worth ten times its weight in gold. Once the Balrog destroyed Khazad-dûm, the kingdom of the Dwarves in Moria, the only source of new mithril ore was cut off. In Tolkien's Middle-earth, mithril is extremely rare by the end of the Third Age, as it was now found only in Khazad-dûm. Tolkien was born near deep mines, and may have chosen to use them in his fiction. Semi-schematic drawing of Kimberley Diamond Mine in South Africa, 1885. The West Gate of Moria bore inlaid ithildin designs and runes. ![]() It was visible only by starlight or moonlight. The Noldor of Eregion, the Elvish land to the west of Moria, made an alloy from it called ithildin ("star moon"), used to decorate gateways, portals and pathways. Its beauty was like to that of common silver, but the beauty of mithril did not tarnish or grow dim. It could be beaten like copper, and polished like glass and the Dwarves could make of it a metal, light and yet harder than tempered steel. In The Fellowship of the Ring, the wizard Gandalf explained mithril to the rest of the Fellowship in Moria: It was of silver-steel which the elves call mithril". In The Hobbit, Thorin Oakenshield described some Dwarven treasures as "coats of mail gilded and silvered and impenetrable" and "a coat of dwarf-linked rings the like of which had never been made before, for it was wrought of pure silver to the power and strength of triple steel." A little later the narrator describes "a small coat of mail, wrought for some young elf-prince long ago. The name mithril comes from two words in Tolkien's Sindarin language- mith, meaning "grey", and ril, meaning "glitter". In the first 1937 edition, the mail shirt given to Bilbo Baggins is described as being made of "silvered steel". Tolkien first wrote of it in The Lord of the Rings, and it was retrospectively mentioned in the third, revised edition of The Hobbit in 1966. It is described as resembling silver, but being stronger and lighter than steel. It appears in many derivative fantasy works by later authors. ![]() For other uses, see Mithril (disambiguation).
